History
Cala Grande is a preserved bay on Monte Argentario, just a few kilometers from Porto Santo Stefano — a place where time has stood still, safeguarding its wild nature and authentic, poetic spirit. Among holm oak woods, olive groves, vineyards, a century-old citrus orchard, and untouched coves, time slows down. Discovered in 1932 by Arturo Osio and lovingly preserved by his family ever since, it is a haven immersed in Mediterranean nature that has welcomed artists and intellectuals over the decades.
“I wish to thank Arturo Osio, who welcomed me into his home at Calagrande during the months I was writing this book. Without his hospitality, his silence, and his discretion, this work would not have been possible. His home offered me the peace I needed to reflect, to search for the right words, and to bring back to life an emperor who belongs to history, but who, for me, has become almost a companion in life.”
Marguerite Yourcenar – Memoirs of Hadrian

The Territory
Cala Grande is a natural amphitheater overlooking the sea of Monte Argentario. A protected environment, safeguarded both by landscape conservation laws and by the Osio family, who for nearly a century have preserved the estate—stretching along the slopes of the bay—in its original state: among holm oak woods, olive groves, vineyards, and an ancient, flourishing citrus orchard near the sea.

Our houses
Cala Grande offers the opportunity to stay in one of its three homes, including two ancient, independent farmhouses nestled in greenery and silence. Each house is designed to welcome guests into an authentic atmosphere, in close connection with nature. They are available all year round, for both short stays and longer retreats. The beauty and serenity of the surrounding landscape provide an ideal refuge for those seeking rest, harmony, and stillness. Guests are free to walk through the estate and enjoy exclusive access, by land, to two small beaches set into the cliffs, a secluded haven for experiencing the sea in total peace.

From our land
Within the Cala Grande estate stretch vineyards, olive groves, and a citrus orchard that reaches all the way to the sea, making this place not only welcoming but also deeply productive. Raw ingredients are cultivated and processed using methods that respect the land and its natural rhythms, resulting in products that embody the identity and seasonality of the territory. From the vineyards of Ansonica, Malvasia, Aleatico, and Granascio come our four wines: Vermentino, Ansonica, Hortuli Hosiani, and Cala Grande. The production is completed by extra virgin olive oil and a wide variety of citrus fruits, lemons, oranges, mandarins, and grapefruits, grown in our century, old citrus orchard. All products are available for purchase on site, during events, tastings, or simply throughout your stay.
