The Path Down
to the Sea
Trails · Mediterranean Scrubland · Coastline
The path down to the sea winds gently through the estate, passing among trees
and Mediterranean scrubland, with unexpected glimpses of Cala Grande’s blue waters.
Following the natural contours of the promontory, the path leads from the higher grounds down to the coast.
Along the way, vineyards and olive groves gradually give way to holm oak woodland
and the native vegetation typical of Monte Argentario.
Mastic trees, myrtle, strawberry trees, juniper, rockrose, mock privet, tree heath and broom
grow alongside aromatic plants such as rosemary, thyme and wild lavender.
The flowering seasons follow one another throughout the year: in winter, rosemary and strawberry trees predominate,
while in spring rockrose, myrtle, mastic trees, broom and tree heath come into bloom.
In autumn, rosemary flowers once again, while blossoms and fruit appear simultaneously on the strawberry trees.
This vegetation not only shapes the landscape with its colours and scents,
but also protects the soil from erosion, forms a natural barrier against sea winds
and supports pollinating insects and many other organisms essential to the balance of the ecosystem.
The holm oak woodland is left to evolve according to its natural cycles,
with human intervention kept to a minimum.
This approach helps preserve biodiversity and the biological fertility of the soil,
while creating a cool, shaded microclimate during the summer months.
The path down to the sea is therefore more than simply a way to reach the coves:
it is a journey through the natural environments that define Cala Grande’s most authentic identity.
